At the heart of the fastest growing town in Ryedale, North Yorkshire

– an exciting future!

Malton Methodist Church occupies a building on Saville Street which links the main road from York to the vibrant market place at the centre of our fast-growing town. The church has overcome many obstacles over the years and emerged stronger and more resilient from each and continuing in that tradition we now confidently face one of the biggest challenges in our history – to raise close to £1.5m to fund “The Wesley Centre, Malton”.

In the autumn of 2015 a roof truss started to fail and our Grade II* listed building was closed for safety reasons. Our minister – Revd. Tanya Short – is shown outside the closed church. This prompted a decision to re-purpose the building as both a Community Hub and a place of worship. On 7th July 2017 the project took a giant step forward when we signed an agreement with Coast & Vale Community Action who will deliver consultancy services to help us raise £1.5m to fund the development of “The Wesley Centre, Malton”. The photo of the signing shows (l to r) Phil Simpson, Strategic Development Worker and Mel Bonney-Kane, Chief Executive at CAVCA signing the agreement with Revd. Tanya Short and Project Team Leader Paul Emberley.

Since the autumn of 2015 we have worshipped with Malton Baptists at their church next to Yates on Wells Lane in Malton.

The first part of our ambitious plans for the Church on Saville Street are expected to come to fruition by Easter 2018, when the roof repairs will have been completed at a cost of £100,000. (You can read more by clicking this link). This will allow us to open the building every day for visitors, and to house a permanent exhibition about the historic building and the main plans for its transformation. As a congregation we will continue to worship with the Baptists until we have secured the funds required and all the work is complete.

We are a friendly and ambitious church community and we welcome the opportunity when the roof repair is complete, to show you around Saville Street, let you browse “The Wesley Centre, Malton” exhibition, to meet you at any of our Saturday coffee mornings and to welcome you to Sunday worship at Wells Lane – see the details below.
